Use case - Tivoli
Critical z/OS events on the central Tivoli Enterprise console
Situation:
The Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC) is used for system monitoring throughout the entire
enterprise. Using a multitude of adapters on many different types of platform, security critical
events are brought together at the Tivoli console, and system operability and security is monitored
centrally. To achieve a central point of control, important z/OS events from the host system need
to be monitored here, too.
Complications:
IBM/Tivoli do not offer a TEC adapter. A developer toolkit is available to enable the
integration of the z/OS platform into the central monitoring system, but this requires a good deal
of time, effort and experience. Development staff simply aren't available to tackle a task like
this.
Solution:
It's quite simple: in addition to its other capabilities,
Beta 89 zSecurity
Monitor comes complete with all the class definitions needed for TEC and can thus be used as a
Tivoli TEC adapter.
To ensure high performance despite the huge quantities of data supplied by the z/OS SMF log,
Beta 89 provides powerful filtering capabilities at the z/OS end.
