Press Release
- Dr. August Hanning, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior, gave the inaugural
speech to start the celebrations
- Germany’s Ulrike Nasse-Meyfarth, double Olympic high-jump champion, participated as guest of honor
Berlin, September 25, 2008 – True to its motto “hand in hand to achieve success”
inspired by the sporting principle of the relay race, Berlin-based Beta Systems Software AG today
celebrated its twenty-fifth birthday in the Estrel Convention Center.
Around 600 guests from 30 nations attended the event. Company co-founder William P. Schmidt
and the current CEO Kamyar Niroumand opened the ceremony and then handed over to their guests of
honor from the fields of politics, science and sport. “I’m full of admiration for the achievements
of Beta Systems’ founders. They had the right instinct from the very first day.
The combination of innovation, quality, flexibility and closeness to customers is still the
key to success today,” commented Kamyar Niroumand, CEO of Beta Systems Software AG. The guests of
honor included Dr. August Hanning, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior, and
Germany’s double Olympic high-jump champion Ulrike Nasse-Meyfarth. The event, which concluded with
a get-together party, was hosted by the SAT.1 and N24 television presenter Gaby Papenburg.
Ulrike Nasse-Meyfarth participated in her role as ambassador for Deutsche Sporthilfe, a
German-based charitable trust that provides sports professionals with financial support. Beta
Systems has been sponsoring sport for many years and encourages the sporting performance of its own
staff. Kamyar Niroumand explained in his opening speech: “There are obvious parallels between
business and sport when it comes to achieving goals. Speed and strength, team spirit and passion –
they’re all vital if you want to succeed. Sport means much more than relaxation and a
counterbalance to work. To achieve a good work-life balance you need both – recognition from
professional success as well as taking a break and getting some exercise.” Niroumand continued: “
Our positioning of Beta Systems as a company is correspondingly consistent. We sponsor many
different sporting activities – from youth work in football through to the federal basketball
league and our support for Deutsche Sporthilfe. Promoting sport is a key part of our social
responsibility to society – and the company benefits from it too.”
The anniversary event kicked off in the morning with workshops on the themes of “Data Centers
and Security Management” and “Incoming Mail and Back-Office Processing and Control Solutions for
Financial Institutions”, as well as with a user group meeting on “Processing Incoming Invoices”.
