Research identifies higher productivity and compliance as central drivers for the use of
identity and access management solutions (IdM/IAM)
- Aberdeen Group recommends role-based user-provisioning and strong authentication
Berlin, 23. April 2007 – The Beta Systems Software AG (Prime Standard: BSS), a provider of high-quality software products and solutions for secure and efficient identity management (IdM), is one of the companies that has supported the Aberdeen Group report, “Identity Management and Access Management Critical to Operations and Security“. Forming the basis of the survey published in March is an online-poll of over 120 companies from various branches of industry. The survey asked how IdM/IAM solutions were adopted, deployed and accepted by its users. According to the Aberdeen group survey, higher productivity and better compliance are two of the most important factors for companies considering identity and access management.
According to the report, 83% of the respondents say compliance with policies and regulations is important for their company. The report emphasizes that companies that fail to de-provision in a timely manner increase their window of vulnerability. Automated de-provisioning can dramatically reduce de-provisioning time and thereby reduce risk.
Based on the results of the survey the Aberdeen group recommends the following points to support companies in the decision for an IdM/IAM solution:
- Select solutions with automated role-based provisioning and policy enforcement,
- Use strong authentication to establish trusted identities, and
- Designate compliance, risk management and privacy advocates within the company to ensure quality.
“Without Identity and access management, organizations are at risk,” said Carol Baroudi, Senior Research Analyst in the Security practice at Aberdeen. “The more users, the greater the number of systems and resources, the bigger the opportunity to improve user productivity and reduce risk through the automating of user access provisioning and de-provisioning. Without clear policies and procedures and ways of enforcing them, companies will not be able to prove compliance. Identity and access management is an important first step.”
Kamyar Niroumand, CEO of Beta Systems, says “Beta Systems feels that this report from
Aberdeen Group confirms the solution strategy we have developed for the global market. We are
assisting organizations throughout the world by enabling the automation of critical user management
processes and enforcing enterprise-wide security policies. I believe our own business strategy is
in line with the findings of this report and we are very pleased to give it our support.”
The Best-in-Class-companies among the respondents actually lowered their administration costs with the use of IdM/IAM solutions. In less than four hours they are able to provision and de-provision account access.
