  • A single point of control through a central output management system with Beta 93 UX

  • Distribution of up to a billion pages of PDF reports a year to over 2,000 stores in Germany, Eastern Europe and Russia

Berlin, 7. December 2006 – Beta Systems Software AG (Prime Standard: BSS), supplier of high quality software products and solutions for secure and efficient document management, has been selected by METRO Group Information Technology (MGI) to deliver its output management solution, Beta 93 UX. As a global information services provider for all METRO Group companies, MGI is responsible for many aspects of IT delivery, including the distribution of reports, statistics and stock lists to printers in sales outlets – primarily in Germany, Eastern Europe and Russia. With immediate effect, MGI will be using the Beta 93 UX output management system from Beta Systems for this purpose. For each market around 580,000 pages are distributed each year, which corresponds to more than 1 billion pages for the Group. For MGI, the fundamental advantages of Beta Systems' solution are the single point of control guaranteed by the Beta 93 UX through its central output management system and central filing as well as the secure IP print transfer, which means that individual stores receive reports relevant to their business much more securely and transparently.

Beta 93 UX creates a secure distribution system
As the information services provider for the METRO Group, MGI looks after and advises sales divisions like Real, Metro Cash & Carry and Galeria Kaufhof. Previously, MGI used a decentralised system for filing reports, statistics and stock lists for individual stores at home and abroad, with documents archived on the respective country’s fileserver. The distribution of Oracle PDF reports of between 10 and 2,000 pages a day took place overnight via LPD (Line Printer Daemon) and FTP (File Transfer Protocol) transfer to individual printers. This meant that secure and simple online distribution could not be fully guaranteed.

Beta Systems' output management solution delivers a central output management system with a single point of control that enables 2,000 reports of up to four million pages to be distributed daily. Oracle PDF reports are converted into PCL (Printer Command Language) documents for distribution and sent via IP printing to over 2,000 printers. If there are faults in the local printing system, the respective country’s administrator has a self-service option, allowing him to call up the status via the internet and, if applicable, generating a new printing process.

An overview of the advantages of the new output management solution
The output management system created with the Beta 93 UX on an AIX platform facilitates complete transparency in the distribution process by receiving feedback from the printer and central reporting. This means further improvements to the process can be made in the right places within MGI’s process sequences. The system is easy to implement because it requires no changes to be made to the existing documents. The automated dis-tribution of Oracle PDF reports via IP printing is also easy, secure and efficient and guarantees status feedback from the printer (quality of service).

“We are delighted to count MGI as one of our customers. Their decision to choose Beta Systems demonstrates yet again the efficiency of our forward-looking output management solution which has proven its efficiency and benefits for customers on many international projects”, said Kamyar Niroumand, CEO of Beta Systems Software AG.
