Beta Systems Introduces Harbor Enterprise NSM™ 7.1
PRESS RELEASE
Beta Systems Introduces Harbor Enterprise NSM™ 7.1
- EnterpriseSolution Provides Fast, Reliable Backup and Recovery for Mainframe-Centric Data Centres
Berlin, Germany, 19 June 2006 - Beta Systems Software AG (Prime Standard: BSS on the German stock exchange), a supplier of high-performance solutions for mass data management, today announced the availability of Harbor Enterprise NSM (Network Storage Manager) 7.1, a data protection and disaster recovery suite that provides fast, reliable backup and recovery of database, mail and file systems, with reduced mainframe MIPS usage and operation elapsed times.
For use in multi-platform environments, Harbor Enterprise NSM provides a single backup solution for an entire enterprise ensuring data distributed throughout an organisation is protected and managed with a central policy server and single point of administration. “With ever-expanding data capacity and protection requirements, Harbor Enterprise NSM is a vital part of our customers’ business continuity strategies” commented Keith Girt, Beta Systems’ UK Country Manager. “A challenge with many large organisations is their backup requirements often include thousands of systems, terabytes of data and billions of backup objects. Harbor NSM enables organisations to leverage existing windows and UNIX hardware to perform local backups and most importantly, minimise nightly backup time.”
Harbor Enterprise NSM, architected to be an integral part of your business continuity strategy, offers a backup and recovery solution that addresses the increasing need for storage capacity on every platform where growing quantities of backup data frequently exceed the capabilities of platform-specific backup processes and storage solutions. It currently works in conjunction with IBM z/OS mainframes. Beta Systems will be extending this functionality to non-mainframe environments later this year.
Key features of Harbor Enterprise NSM 7.1 include:
Encryption for Offsite Data
Protection
Harbor Enterprise NSM supports the proprietary encryption of
data written to tape, lessening the threat of sensitive information being
compromised in the event that backup tapes stored offsite are lost or
stolen.
Scalability and
Speed
Harbor Enterprise NSM backs up thousands of file servers and
terabytes of storage using the speed and reliability of the z/OS mainframe –
allowing businesses to perform larger and more frequent backups of their Open
Systems data using existing hardware. Achieving transfer speeds up to 200
GB/hour and able to move data in parallel across different communications paths,
Harbor Enterprise NSM reduces mainframe processing costs and traditional
bottlenecks.
Central Administration &
Global Policy for Complex Environments
A central Administration Console
and policy database streamlines the process of managing multiple backup servers
throughout an enterprise. Backup jobs at remote sites can be automatically
scheduled, lessening the dependence on staff and the chance of human error.
Remote Helpdesk
Using the
Remote Helpdesk, an administrator or help desk staff can view backed up files
and select those for end-user restore, usually without the need to log into the
remote system or the mainframe.
